Media Alert: Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, December 8

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, December 8, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. 

Items on the agenda include the following:

9:10 a.m.         State Assessments
The State Board will hear a report on data from the elementary and middle school portion of the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessment.  This marks the first data release for this segment of the new tests, covering English and mathematics. High school data was released at the October State Board meeting.

10:25 a.m.       Local, State, and Federally Mandated Assessments
The State Board will hear a report on a survey of the time spent on local, state and federally mandated assessments.  The survey was required by House Bill 452: Commission to Review Maryland’s Use of Assessments and Testing in Public Schools.

1:15 p.m.           Master Plans
The State Board will hear a report on 2015 Bridge to Excellence Master Plans, required by the Bridge to Excellence (Thornton) legislation. Through the Master Plan process, local systems outline strategies for strengthening student learning and eliminating gaps in student achievement.
