Media Alert: Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, August 25

Baltimore, MD (August 21, 2015)

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 25, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. 

Items on the agenda include the following:

9:05 a.m.         State Board Recognition
The State Board will recognize members leaving board service and welcome new board members.

10:05 a.m.       Computer Science
The State Board will hear a report on the progress being made in expanding computer science in Maryland classrooms. 

11:00 a.m.       Assessment Update
The State Board will hear a report on the first full administration of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) tests, focusing on concerns identified in the first full year and MSDE’s response to those issues.

11:25 a.m.       Charter Schools
The State Board will hear a report on the current status and success of Maryland charter schools, as well as on implementation plans for changes to the charter school law approved this past year by the General Assembly.

2:10 p.m.         Bullying
The State Board will be provided with a report on MSDE’s annual report to the General Assembly on bullying and harassment.
