Media Alert: Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, July 28

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 28, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. 

Items on the agenda include the following: 

 

9:45 a.m.         State Board Officers
The State Board is scheduled to elect a new Board President and Vice President.

10:15 a.m.       Early Learning
The State Board will hear a report on Maryland’s implementation of the Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge Grant, including the launch of the Maryland EXCELS program, a voluntary rating and improvement program for child care facilities.

10:50 a.m.       Funding Adequacy
The State Board will hear a report on the progress of the Study of Adequacy of Funding for Education in the State Of Maryland, currently being compiled by Augenblick, Palaich & Associates as a follow-up to the Bridge to Excellence Act signed 10 years ago.  The final report is scheduled to be delivered at the end of 2016.

11:10 a.m.       PARCC Assessments
The State Board will be provided with a report on the first full administration of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) tests.
