Media Alert: Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, May 19

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 19, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 8:30 a.m. 


Items on the agenda include the following:

9:10 a.m.         Early Childhood Education
The State Board will hear a progress report on the Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge Grant, as well as a report on the baseline results from Maryland’s new Kindergarten Readiness Assessment.  The new assessment succeeded the Maryland Model for School Readiness assessment program that the State used for more than a decade.


9:55 a.m.         State Assessments
The State Board will hear a report on the first administration of Maryland’s PARCC assessment, currently nearing completion. 


11:15 a.m.       Teachers of the Year
The State Board will welcome new local Teachers of the Year from all 24 Maryland school systems to celebrate their accomplishments.  State Board members will host the teachers during a luncheon that follows their recognition.
