Maryland’s First Lady, Yumi Hogan, will host an awards ceremony honoring the outstanding artistic achievements of the State’s student artists this Friday at the House of Delegates Gallery Space located in the Lowe House Office Building.  The Governor’s Citation will be awarded to three first place winners – one from each of the elementary, middle and high school levels.

The award ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 4.

First Lady Yumi Hogan, an adjunct professor at Maryland Institute College of Art and herself an accomplished artist, has been an active supporter of the arts community and advocate for arts programs in schools across Maryland.

Artwork by students representing nearly all of Maryland’s school systems will be exhibited.  The art will be displayed for the next six months, then moved to the Maryland State Department of Education.

The exhibition is supported by the Maryland State Department of Education’s Fine Arts Office, the Maryland Arts Education Association and the Maryland State Arts Council.  The initiative celebrates the arts in public education.
