Press Release: Maryland Public School Enrollment Hits New Record

Nearly 880,000 Students Fill State K-12 Classrooms

Maryland public school enrollment has hit a new record, with nearly 880,000 students filling elementary, middle, and high school classrooms across the State.

Enrollment increased 0.6 percent from 2014 to 2015, jumping from 874,514 to 879,601 students.  Maryland’s public schools have gained 35,740 students since 2008.

Howard County Public Schools grew the fastest, on a percentage basis, up 2.2 percent between 2014 and 2015.  Howard’s growth was followed by Wicomico, Montgomery, and Prince George’s Counties.  Overall, 12 of Maryland’s 24 local school systems increased in enrollment over the 2014-15 school year.
